A Comment on Modern Workforce Trends in 2022

“As we enter 2022, changes in how we work, where we work, who we work with, why we work, and the technologies we use are in continual flux. Many of these changes started prior to the pandemic, were accelerated by it, and have become permanent aspects of the workplace.” – Forbes

You’ve likely been bombarded with buzzwords from quite a deal of crystal ball gazing about the future of work in 2022 as we move into more COVID-19 variants and self-imposed isolation, changes to the workplace and the growing power of individual.

“Mutual prosperity; “from “me” to “we”; “from roles to skills”; inclusion and diversity; “reinvention”; “The Great Resignation” and many, many more.

Well at Ploy we’re sifting through the research, looking at our own experience and that of our staff, partners, customers and contractors and coming to you shortly with what we think about the changing workforce and workplace as we move into 2022, and here’s a teaser of the things we think are going to impact this year.

  • A much greater focus on work-life balance and employee wellbeing.
  • A shift in what “employee wellbeing” really means.
  • Hybrid work models leading to contractors and employees working for multiple organisations concurrently – and how to manage this.
  • Shifting employment trends from The Great Resignation.
  • More personal and professional development will be required from businesses.
  • The need for much stronger employer/employee values alignment.
  • A great reliance on technology, including AI-assisted skill based hiring.
  • The critical need for learning and development to retain talent supported by the need for skills identification and clarity.
  • The need for HR to change the way they view the workplace.
  • “Power Skills” that include human skills & digital skills with a focus on resilience.
  • And – of course  continuing COVID variants means more working from home coupled with home schooling – so the rise of the importance of how to manage parent contractors.

Stay tuned! We will let you know what we think in more detail soon!
